Mercedes-Benz Ownership Explained: The App, Your Warranty, and Service Intervals
The relationship between a driver and their Mercedes-Benz does not end when the keys change hands. At Mercedes-Benz of El Cajon, we treat delivery as the beginning of a long-term partnership. That partnership rests on three things: connected technology, clear warranty coverage, and a service department that knows your car.
This guide covers what new owners ask about most. You’ll learn how the Mercedes-Benz app works and how to activate it. You’ll also learn about warranty coverage and when to schedule routine maintenance.
Managing Your Vehicle with the Mercedes-Benz App
Your phone can now do much of what your key used to. The Mercedes-Benz app — once called Mercedes me connect — is the main portal for day-to-day control. It sends live data to your phone or a paired smartwatch. These features are part of Mercedes-Benz Digital Extras.
What You Can Do From Your Phone
Remote Start
Start the engine and cool or warm the cabin before you get in.
Remote Lock & Unlock
Lock or unlock your doors from your phone, wherever you are.
Vehicle Status
Real-time status, including tire pressure, fuel level, and mileage.
Locate Your Vehicle
Pinpoint where your car is parked. Sound the horn and lights to find it faster.
Service Reminders
See upcoming service and book an appointment with participating dealers.
Keeping Tabs on a Performance Model
Take a performance model like the Mercedes-AMG E 53 HYBRID. A 3.0L inline-6 turbo and an electric motor work together here. The app lets you check on the car without walking out to the driveway, right down to confirming the doors are locked. If that level of integration appeals to you, you can explore our current new-vehicle inventory to find the model that fits your lifestyle.
How to Activate Your Mercedes-Benz App Account
The app works with model year 2019 and newer vehicles. Select 2018 GLE and 2018 C-Class models are also equipped with Mercedes-Benz app services, so check with our team if your vehicle is a 2018. Setup takes only a few minutes. Our delivery specialists walk new owners through it at handoff. Eligibility, features, and activation requirements are published by Mercedes-Benz USA in its Mercedes-Benz app overview.
The Four Activation Steps
- Download the Mercedes-Benz app from the iOS App Store or Google Play Store.
- Create a personal Mercedes me ID using your email address and complete registration.
- Add your vehicle by scanning the QR code displayed on the MBUX screen, or by entering your Vehicle Identification Number manually.
- Accept the terms of use to activate your complimentary trial services.
If Something Is Not Working
Start with the basics by confirming your phone has a stable internet connection and checking that the app is on the latest version. You can also reach support through the app, or stop by our service center for hands-on help. Our technicians can check that your car’s communication module is sending data, and if a replacement part is needed, our parts department can order it.
What Happens After the Trial
Most remote services are free for the first year on 2022 and newer models. After that, you can renew most features for a fee through the Mercedes-Benz Store.
What Your Mercedes-Benz Warranty Covers
Every new Mercedes-Benz is covered against factory defects in material or workmanship. Here is how the coverage layers:
| Coverage | Term | What It Covers |
|---|---|---|
| New Vehicle Limited Warranty | 4 years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first | Repairs or replacements needed to correct defects in material or workmanship, but not design |
| High-Voltage Battery Limited Warranty (plug-in hybrid) | 6 years or 62,000 miles, whichever comes first | Defects in material or workmanship in the high-voltage battery, after the New Vehicle Limited Warranty expires |
| California Extended High-Voltage Battery Warranty | 10 years or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first | High-voltage battery coverage for qualifying SULEV-certified plug-in hybrids registered in a qualifying state |
| Certified Pre-Owned Limited Warranty | 1 year, unlimited miles, beginning when the New Vehicle Limited Warranty expires | Engine and powertrain, steering, suspension, brakes (excluding wear of discs and pads), electrical system, climate control, navigation |
| Extended Limited Warranty | 12, 24, or 36 months, with 75,000- or 100,000-mile options | Continues coverage after the New Vehicle Limited Warranty expires |
The California Plug-In Hybrid Battery Advantage
One detail matters a lot if you drive a plug-in hybrid here. Standard high-voltage battery coverage runs six years or 62,000 miles. California extends that to ten years or 150,000 miles. There are conditions: the car must meet the CARB SULEV emission standard, it must be sold new by an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealership, and it must be registered in a qualifying state. To check whether yours is SULEV-certified, look at the emission label in the engine bay. Our service team can confirm it for you. Mercedes-Benz publishes the full terms in its Service and Warranty Information booklet.
What Warranties Do Not Cover
Standard warranties do not cover normal wear and tear. Brake pads and discs are one example. So are worn or damaged wiper blades and inserts. Coverage applies to defects. It does not apply to the routine parts every car uses up.
Roadside Assistance
Roadside Assistance is free while your car is under a Mercedes-Benz warranty. That covers the New Vehicle Limited Warranty, an Extended Limited Warranty, and a Certified Pre-Owned Limited Warranty. Eligibility and covered services are detailed on the Mercedes-Benz USA Roadside Assistance page. Covered services include:
- Flat tire service
- Jump-starts
- Fuel delivery
- Towing to the nearest authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer
Looking at a Certified Pre-Owned Mercedes-Benz? That protection carries over as part of the certification.

Owning a Mercedes-Benz in Southern California
Southern California’s climate is easy on cars most of the year. The summer sun is the exception. It calls for extra care inside the cabin.
Plenty of local families spend weekends at the Santee Lakes Recreation Preserve in Santee. The GLE offers a roomy cabin. When properly equipped, it tows up to 7,700 pounds. That is enough for most trailers. Ratings vary by trim and setup, so confirm the number for your own vehicle before you hitch a load.
Maximum towing and payload capacity figures are based on properly equipped vehicles and vary by configuration. Do not exceed any weight rating. See your owner’s manual and the vehicle’s door-jamb label for specific capacities.
Common Questions About Mercedes-Benz Ownership and Technology
How does the ASSYST PLUS system determine when Service A or Service B is due?
Mercedes-Benz publishes approximate intervals: Service A at about 10,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first, and Service B at about 20,000 miles or two years. ASSYST PLUS then tailors the actual timing to your vehicle, accounting for your driving habits, mileage, time in service, and local operating conditions. When maintenance approaches, it displays a countdown in your instrument cluster. You can review the published intervals on the Mercedes-Benz USA service and maintenance page.
What should I do to protect my vehicle’s interior from intense Southern California sun?
We recommend applying Genuine Mercedes-Benz interior care products to leather surfaces and using a custom-fit windshield sunshade when parked. Regular washing also helps protect the exterior clear coat from UV-intensified environmental contaminants.
Is there a subscription fee for digital services after the initial period?
Most remote access services are complimentary for the first year on model year 2022 and newer vehicles. Once that term concludes, most features can be renewed for a fee through the Mercedes-Benz Store.
