The Mercedes-Benz G-Class is available at Mercedes-Benz of El Cajon in three distinct forms. The Mercedes-Benz G 550 pairs a turbocharged inline-six with mild-hybrid assist. The Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ Technology is fully electric. The Mercedes-AMG G 63 is powered by a handcrafted V8. All three are built on the same ladder frame in Graz, Austria, and all are sold and serviced in El Cajon, serving San Diego, La Mesa, Santee, Bonita, and Chula Vista.
The Mercedes-Benz G 550’s 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six replaces the previous biturbo V8. Mercedes-Benz rates it for higher peak power and greater efficiency. An Integrated Starter-Generator adds up to 20 hp at certain engine speeds. It also sharpens throttle response and allows gas-free coasting. The Mercedes-AMG G 63 keeps its hand-built 4.0-liter biturbo V8. The Mercedes-Benz G 580 drops the engine entirely for four electric motors, one at each wheel.

The Mercedes-Benz G 550 and Mercedes-AMG G 63 both run permanent all-wheel drive with a two-speed transfer case. Both carry three lockable differentials, engaged center, then rear, then front, from dash buttons. The OFFROAD COCKPIT shows compass, elevation, steering angle, torque output, and tire pressure on the dual screens. A Transparent Hood view uses the 360-degree cameras to show the ground under the nose.
On the Mercedes-AMG G 63, AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL swaps anti-roll bars for hydraulically linked dampers. The result is less body roll on pavement and more wheel travel off-road. It is optional, available only with the AMG Performance Package or the AMG Offroad Package Pro, and is not offered on the G 550 or G 580.
